Overview
About This Experience
When the sun sets in Guanacaste, an entirely different ecosystem awakens. The Night Walk is a 2–3 hour guided experience through primary and secondary rainforest trails where you'll encounter the creatures that only emerge after dark. Led by an expert bilingual naturalist, the walk moves at a leisurely pace suited to all fitness levels. The guide uses a red-filter flashlight technique to illuminate animals without disturbing them. Red-eyed tree frogs, vine snakes, glass frogs, tarantulas, walking-stick insects, sleeping birds, and bats are among the remarkable encounters that make this one of the most memorable experiences in Costa Rica.

Practical tips
Before You Go
Dress for the jungle at night
Long pants and a long-sleeve shirt protect against insects and brush. Bring closed-toe shoes — no flip-flops. Temperatures drop slightly after dark, so a light layer is welcome. Apply insect repellent before departure.
Move slowly, speak softly
Wildlife detection on a night walk depends almost entirely on patience and silence. The guide will signal the group to stop and whisper observations. Loud noises cause animals to flee or hide. Children who can follow quiet instructions get the most out of this experience.
Photography tips
A smartphone with night mode works surprisingly well for photos of stationary animals like frogs and snakes. Avoid using a flash — it disturbs the animals and ruins the experience for the group. A small tripod or a steady hand matters more than an expensive camera.
