Overview
About This Experience
The Río Tenorio originates on the slopes of Tenorio Volcano and carves a dramatic path through forested canyons on its way to the lowlands. The upper section offers Class II–III rapids — challenging enough to be thrilling but accessible to beginners with a proper safety briefing. The lower Corobicí section calms to Class I–II, making it ideal for families and wildlife enthusiasts who want to float gently past nesting crocodiles, howler monkeys, and countless bird species. MoonRiver Travel runs both options with certified guides and full safety equipment.

Practical tips
Before You Go
Dress for getting wet
You will get wet — plan on it. Wear a swimsuit under quick-dry shorts and a rash guard or old t-shirt. Bring a change of clothes in a dry bag for the return trip. Water shoes or sport sandals with a heel strap are ideal footwear.
Wildlife on the Corobicí
The Corobicí section is one of the best river corridors for wildlife watching in Guanacaste. Look for American crocodiles resting on sandbars, white-faced capuchin monkeys in the trees, and birds including kingfishers, anhingas, and roseate spoonbills.
Protect your phone
Even with a dry bag, rapids can soak gear unexpectedly. Leave expensive electronics in the vehicle or rent a waterproof case. GoPro-style cameras mounted on helmets are the most popular solution among repeat visitors.
